Mentoring

What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer Mentoring occurs when people with disabilities help other people with disabilities. Peer Mentors share their experiences, in life and work, to help others find their path to success.

The goals of Peer Mentoring are to promote greater independence, improve self-confidence, and help people with disabilities explore their talents and abilities. We do this by matching people with disabilities with a mentor who is appropriate to their needs and who serves as a positive role model. We also offer peer support groups aimed at providing emotional support and fostering independent living skills among group members.

You could be a Peer Mentor if:
If you would benefit from meeting with a Peer Mentor, or if you would like to offer your time and experience as a volunteer Peer Mentor, call NCCI at (518) 563-9058 Voice & TTY, or email Michael Sherman, Independent Living Specialist, by clicking this link..
