Social Security Work Incentives
Understanding Benefits for People with Disabilities ... workshops in November and December.

Do you receive Social Security disability
benefits?
Want to work?
Call us. We have good news!
Many individuals would like to work, but are worried that
they will lose necessary cash and medical benefits if they have
earnings. The project will provide you with information about
work incentives which allow you to keep some or all of your cash
benefits and your medical benefits as well. These work incentives
are:
- SSDI's Trial Work Period & Extended Period of Eligibility
- SSI rules for disregarding some earned income, including
student earnings
- SSDI & SSI reinstatement rules
- Extended Medicare and 1619(b) Medicaid coverage
- SSI's Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS)
You are eligible to receive assistance to understand and use
these programs if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI),
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Medicare or Medicaid,
or if you are a student age 14 or older, who receives SSI or
SSDI. Benefits advisement can be short term ... completed in
one or two phone calls or meetings, or long term ... with planning,
monitoring and problem solving over an extended period of time
(6 to 12 months). This may include drafting a Plan for Achieving
Self-Support (PASS).
The project is funded by the Social Security Administration
and is designed to assist individuals who receive SSA disability
benefits to make informed choices about work. It provides information,
advice and training about work incentives to individuals, family
members and support agencies.
Our goal is to help people reach their highest employment
potential through benefits advisement.
